Luxor in Egypt

Luxor is located in the southern part of Egypt and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Egypt . Due to its impressive archaeological sights it is also know as the worlds greatest ‘open air museum'. It hosts number of monuments, tombs and temples, including the valley of Kings and Queens . This city is first-class base for tripping upper part of Egypt and is situated on the eastern bank. Luxor is a modern city and to a great extent it is dependent on tourism, usually it is used for starting and finishing point for Nile cruises. Some of the most popular sites of the city are Mummification Museum , Colossi of Memnon, Medinet Habu, Tombs of Nobles and Temples of Luxor.

The Museum of Ancient Egyptian Art is a wonderful place to visit; one can find numerous spectacular creations. The museum is located at a nearby distance from the Temple of Luxor , next site of attraction. If one wants to see ancient ruins and tombs then the capital Thebes is worth visiting. On the other hand, if one is interested in peeping into the modern Luxor , the eastern side would give you the glimpse. This area positions most of the shops, restaurants and the museums. The three popular streets, Sharia al Karnak, Sharia al-Mahatt and the Corniched are situated in the eastern side. Train and bus stations are also in the east side.

The western part of Luxor is of tourist importance, so usually people stay in the eastern part and travel to the west side for sightseeing. But, nowadays many hotels are being constructed in the western side to facilitate tourists to stay and watch historical and cultural aspect of Luxor . Thus, western side is gaining more popularity than the western side. There are some thrilling ways to go around Luxor , like taxis, bicycles, carriage and horse or on foot. For convenience one can also take a boat from the east side to the west side. If one is interested in adventures, it would be recommended to walk across the desert to the Valley of the Queens from the Valley of the Kings . The walking may provide some insight on earlier culture and customs of Luxor .

A note of caution, selling or consuming alcoholic beverages are illegal in Luxor . But many hotels which are not run by Muslims provide sale and drink of alcohol. If possible try to avoid red wine, it is an acquired taste and some may not be able to tolerate it. Another point to bear in mind is that keep alcohol intake out of public eye, it is neither culturally nor legally permissible. If you are in the eastern side of the city enjoy eating in Jamboree, McDonalds and the El Kebabgy, and if in west side don't miss to visit Tutankhamun, a fantastic place for meals. One can find some lovely places in the west side for drinks, but in the eastern side it may be somewhat difficult.

Last but not least, if possible spare a week for Luxor because it has several enticing historical sites and the memory may last with you forever.
