Sharm el Sheikh is situated at the southern end of the Sinai Peninsula , and this provides an easy access to the Red Sea , resulting into world's most popular scuba diving location. A large number of divers flock to Sharm el Sheikh every year to experience the truly fantastic underwater delight that the Red Sea offers. It stretches out various kinds of diving, which ranges from shore dives to reef dives.

 

The popularity of Sharm el Sheikh as a diving location can be attributed to the Red Sea and its word's richest marine surroundings. The Red Sea contain all those things that can delight a diver around 400 varieties of recorded coral species and hundreds of species of fish, along with exceptional visibility and warm waters. Apart from this, the position of Sharm el Sheikh, that is, south of Sinai Peninsula , facilitates easy access to some of the world's largest dive locations, such as Thistlegorm wreck and the famous Ras Mohammed Marine Park . Just diving over Sharm el Sheikh tends to be riveted on a few great dive sites, like Ras Mohammed Marine Park and the Strait of Tiran . Both regions are rich in marine life and plant; even the most experienced diver could satisfy themselves.

 

The Straits of Tiran is a series of four big reefs and make the crest of an underwater bridge, and it support large quantity of soft and hard corals. It is about seven kilometers north east of Sharm el Sheikh. The Straits of Tiran also provides a golden chance to spot some of the big pelagic marine life that lives in this region. If time permits, the Straits of Tiran should be explored in details over the period of few days, because the famous four reefs, Woodhouse Reef, Jacksons Reef, Gordon Reef and Thomas Reef are all located in this area and offer an excellent dive sites.

 

At the tip of the Sinai Peninsula is situated the Ras Mohammed National Park , and the Gulf of Aquaba 's nutrient rich water brings a large number of marine life into this region. Slanting down to deepness of about 1000 meters and steep coral crusted walls tends to prescribe the nature of the diving in Ras Mohammed. Nevertheless, one can also spend time adoring the beauty of number of shallow reefs. Ras Mohammed area has number of good dive sites, such as Yolanda Reef, Shark Reef, Jackfish Alley, Anenome City , Eel Gardena and Shark Observatory.

 

Of various dive sites situated in Sharm el Sheikh, the most popular and historical site is the Thistlegorm Wreck, in 1941 a supply ship of World War II sank here. The wreck till date holds crates of Lee Enfield rifles and two big Rolls Royce armored cars. In the Thistlegorm wreck one can also see the BSA military motorbikes, Morris cars, and Bedford Trucks as well as other supplies like ammunition and Wellington boots.

 

Overall, Sharm el Sheikh lays out multitude of interesting dives for both novice and/or experienced divers. Various professional organizations impart diving courses. In brief, Sharm el Sheikh is a paradise for divers.

If you like scuba diving or snorkeling then Sharm el Naga is the place to visit. Just a couple of miles outside Hurghada and the beach and reef is superb for us diving/scuba diving beginners..
