Travelguide to Egypt

Dahab in Egypt
Dahab is a small town of Egypt located on the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula . Longtime ago it was a fishing village of Bedouin community, situated at a distance of about 80 km northeast of Sharm el Sheikh. Till date Dahab is believed to be one of the most cherished diving destinations of Sinai. Dahab is also known as Di-Zahav in Hebrew, according to a historical fact the town was occupied by Israel after the Six Day War. In 1982 the Sinai Peninsula was reinstate to Egyptian dominion. With the advent of international hotel chains and constitution of other auxiliary facilities in Dahab, it has transformed itself as a popular tourist destination. Sharm el Sheikh is the nearest international airport.
Dahab is famous all over the world for its windsurfing. Dependable winds allow for brilliant flat-water conditions within Dahab's sand spit. Behind the spit there is an area known by windsurfers as ‘Speedy', this has strong interrupted winds and flat water, laying down a perfect field for windsurfing at greater velocity. A small bay inside the ‘Speedy' zone, popular as ‘ Baby Bay ', is utilized for the purpose of performing tricks (freestyle windsurfing). In the east, strong winds coupled with wavy conditions provide unnerving conditions for great windsurfers. The snorkeling and scuba diving are excellent, with several reefs right way adjoining to waterfront hotels. The Canyon and Blue Hole are internationally popular dive spots.
Along the down-town tourist region is the seafood restaurants known as Masbet, are very good for delicious cuisines, such as red snapper, lobster and calamari being highlights. If in Dahab don't miss the Bedouin-style earthenware cooked seafood. To travel around the area one can choose any form of transportation like horse, camel, jeep and/or quad bike safaris. These are found either parallel to the shoreline or around the township. Other adjacent places worth visiting are Saint Catherine's Monastery and Mount Sinai ; just two hours drive from Dahab and are popular for their panoramic sunrise and sunset view.
Literally, Dahab has very few sightseeing places, but one can arrange tour for adjacent areas of interest. Such as, ‘Ein Khudra', a Bedouin oasis and a lovely venue for diving, snorkeling and relaxing. The ‘lagoona' is famous for kite surfing and windsurfing; it is an elongated sandy stretch near to Dahab City . Remember to carry snacks and drinks with oneself because there are no cafes on the lagoona point. This is an excellent spot to pass time outside the town center.
Diving is one of the most popular activities in Dahab and the reefs are yet in sound shape. Some of the famous dive sites are Blue Hole, Abu Helal, Canyon, The Bells, Eel Garden , Coral Garden , Moray Garden , Lighthouse, Gabr El Bint, Three Pools and Ras Abu Gallum. Bedouin Divers is situated at the coast of the Red Sea and is utmost favorite among tourists.
A note of caution, be careful while diving in the Blue Hole. The area is notorious for killing several inexperienced and experienced divers. If interested to dive here, it's better to take technical dive training and expert diver.
